Catalan has a number of verbs in -g/-c as well, but
don't seem to have anything to do with this
phenomenon. A quick list: vaig (go); caic (fall); dec
(owe); escric (write); faig (do); moc (move); jec (lie
down); ric (laugh); soc (be). Hardly exhaustive! Of
course, this was a feature that made it into Kerno;
and I wonder if there was some kind of fusion with ego
in these verbs.
