Almost certainly. The genetic differences between humans and
chimps involve at least 10 major translocations and inversions.
But it's uncertain whether such a hybrid would be inviable or
viable but infertile. Stephen Jay Gould said that such an
experiment would be simultaneously the most interesting and the
most unethical one he could think of.
