I seem to recall reading just a few hours ago that the domestic
dog had recently been moved into the species of the Grey Wolf,
but I can't find that page now... I get plenty of "New Guinea
Singing Dog" pages though. =P
At any rate, Google finds many more "Canis familiaris" than
"Canis lupus familiaris", so I guess you're either right, or the
development has been very recent indeed.
