Whatever! The word is there in one fashion or
another, and has been long enough to drive out
the native word (esperdo, which isn't even in a
fairly comprehensive dictionary) and usurp the
position. "Keep" may not be historically
accurate, as it is a borrowing; but is not too
far from the mark, as Spanish in recent centuries
has kept it over the native word.
